Online Casino Games - Rules Explained

Blackjack Single Hand

Player’s Pair and 21+3 side betsAuthentic casino art-style

The main goal of playing Blackjack Single Hand is to obtain a better score than the dealer. This online blackjack game uses standard Vegas Strip rules, with Blackjack paying 3 to 2. You will also be offered the chance to Split and take Insurance, as well as playing Side Bets.

The game uses six decks, which are shuffled after each round.

Getting Started:

Choose the minimum and maximum betting limits from the menu when the game loads. Press Join to access the blackjack table.

  • Select a chip (by clicking) from the selection panel on the bottom centre of the screen. You can use your cursor to drag across the different chip values into view.
  • Click again on the appropriate part of the betting table to place a bet. Each click adds another chip of the same value to the bet. Go back and choose different chips if you wish.

Note: At least one chip must be placed in the main betting circle. You can only place Side Bets if you place a bet in the main game.

  • Press Double to instantly double the values of all chips on the table.
  • Select Undo to remove a single chip and Clear Bets to remove all chips (only available before confirming bets).

Note: You can bet as many chips as you like as long as you are within the maximum and minimum betting limits set at the start of the game.

How to Play:

  • Click Deal to confirm bets and start the game.

You will be dealt two cards face up and the dealer will receive one card face up and one face down. Player Pair and 21+3 Side Bets are judged at this point in the game.

  • Choose Hit, Stand, Double or Split as required.
    • Hit = receive another card.
    • Stand = play out the round with the current hand.
    • Double = double the bet and receive one more card only.
    • Split = place a further bet (equal to the first) and split the hand into two new hands.

Note: Split is only offered when the first two cards have an equal value.

When you have made your play, the dealer will then draw cards. If you have made the Dealer Pair Side Bet, it will be judged at this point. The dealer must draw to 16 and stand on all scores of 17 or above. You will win or lose under the following rules:

  • Blackjack (A + 10, J, Q or K) will beat any hand and pay 3 to 2 on your bet.
  • Beating the dealer’s score without exceeding 21 will pay 1 to 1 on your bet.
  • You will lose the bet if you go bust, regardless of the dealer’s score.
  • Tied scores will result in a push. Bets will be returned.

When the game round has concluded, the following options will appear on screen:

  • Rebet = start the next round with the same bets on the table. You can adjust the bets if you wish.
  • Rebet & Deal = place the same bets as the last round and immediately confirm and deal the cards.
  • Double & Deal = double the bets of the last round, confirm and deal the cards.

10-Card Charlie:

One possible hand in multi-deck blackjack is 10-Card Charlie. This means that you draw 10 cards without exceeding 21. 10-Card Charlie will beat any hand but Blackjack.

Insurance:

You will be offered the chance to take Insurance if the dealer’s first card is an Ace. This is a side bet on the prospect of the dealer having Blackjack. Choose Accept or Decline as required.

Taking Insurance requires a stake equal to half your initial bet. You will be paid 2 to 1 on the Insurance bet if the dealer has Blackjack. You will lose the Insurance bet if the dealer shows any other hand but Blackjack.

Splitting:

If you choose to Split a hand comprised of two cards of the same value, it will cost another stake equal to your first. One card is drawn to each new hand and you will be able to play out the round with the two separate hands. Each will be judged separately against the dealer.

However, some rules apply to split hands:

  • If two Aces are split, only one further card is drawn to each new hand.
  • If two Aces are split and one or more of the new hands consists of A + 10, J, Q or K, it is considered a score of 21 and not Blackjack. A winning bet will be paid 1 to 1.
  • You can still Double on a Split hand, with the same rules applied as the main game.
  • You cannot Split a hand that has already been Split.

Side Bets:

You can place two types of Side Bets before the first cards have been dealt – 21+3 or Player/Dealer Pair. Each Side Bet is played independently from the main game, although a bet must be placed on the main game first to enable Side Bets.

Player Pair/Dealer Pair:

To play the Player Pair or Dealer Pair Side Bet, place a chip in section marked Player Pair or Dealer Pair.

Note: You can play both Side Bets simultaneously if you wish.

You will be making a bet on your first two cards (Player Pair) consisting of a pair, or the dealer’s first two cards (Dealer Pair) consisting of a pair. If you win the bet, you will be paid according to the table below:

Player/Dealer Pair:

Example:

Returns:

Perfect Pair

Two cards of the same value and suit, e.g. 2x Jack of Hearts.

25 to 1

Coloured Pair

Two cards of the same value and colour, e.g. Jack of Hearts and Jack of Diamonds.

12 to 1

Any Pair (Red/Black)

Two cards of the same value, but different colour, e.g. Jack of Diamonds and Jack of Clubs.

6 to 1

Please note:

  • The Player Pair Side Bet is judged when you have received your first two cards. The Dealer Pair Side Bet is judged when the dealer reveals their second card.

21+3 Side Bet:

To play the 21+3 Side Bet, place a chip on the section marked 21+3.

You will be making a bet on forming a winning three-card poker hand with your initial two cards and the dealer’s first card. Just like Player Pair, 21+3 is judged after the initial deal has been made.

If you win, you will be paid according to the table below:

How to play casino games

Here's a rundown of some of our most popular online casino games, including how to play them, and which offers the highest payouts.

Online slots

Online slots are played more than any other online casino games. They’re relatively simple to play, which makes them a great option for beginners. Slots can also offer large payouts, particularly for a jackpot win.

Playing slots online is very straightforward. The simplest form of online slots are three-reel slots, which are based on the traditional fruit machines you may have seen in arcades. In these slots, you’ll see three columns and three rows of symbols, with the middle row being the payline. You place your bet and spin the reel, and if you get a winning combination, you win the amount stated on the paytable.

There are many other kinds of slots online available at William Hill Canada, such as five-reel slots and video slots, but they essentially work in the same way. While the odds of winning at slots are slimmer than other online casino games, they do allow you to play with small stakes on a wide variety of slots. Slots with a jackpot offer a larger prize pool, so let’s have a look at those next.

Jackpot slots

The main difference between regular online slots and jackpot slots is that the former have a lower maximum payout. With jackpot slots, however, there are larger top prizes, sometimes offering up to a seven-digit win on just a single spin.

While 'jackpot' can refer to a fixed huge cash prize awarded during jackpot games, the term is also used to describe progressive slot games. For fixed jackpot slots the size of the jackpot is, well, a fixed amount. With a progressive slot, the size of the jackpot increases each time a player places a bet on the game. Progressive jackpot slots are a great way to add to your online gambling experience. These games can offer some of the most exciting experiences of all casino games, as they provide you with the chance to win the biggest payouts you'll find online.

Online roulette

Online roulette games consist of a wheel with spaces that are either red or black and are numbered from 1-36. This popular game is easy to learn and even easier to play. All you need to do is predict where the ball will land and place your bet. The roulette wheel then spins, and if it lands on where you placed your bet, you win.

You may think that only one variant of roulette exists in online casinos, as this is typically the case at real-world casinos. However, at William Hill Canada, you’ll find multiple variants available, including a European version with one zero, and an American version with two. You’ll also find a French version that offers slightly improved odds if you bet on an even-money proposition.

Online blackjack

To win at online blackjack, you need a higher number than the dealer without exceeding 21. You are dealt two cards and can ask for another card as many times as you want before you reach 21.

One of the great things about playing online blackjack is the number of variants available. At a real-world casino, you’re restricted to just one or two games, but you'll find more here at William Hill Canada, including Blackjack Scratch, Royale Blackjack, and Blackjack Super 21.

Live casino games online

This is where online casino technology really comes into its own. Some players enjoy the thrills provided by a real-life casino but also enjoy the convenience of playing online. Live casino offers the ultimate experience to these players. The only difference between playing live casino at home and playing at a land-based casino is that with the former, the action is live-streamed to your device.

You’ll be playing at real tables, with real cards, and with real croupiers dealing your cards or spinning the wheel. Depending on the game, you'll also be playing with other players from all over the globe. With the ability to enjoy live chat with both players and the dealer, live casino offers a fantastic opportunity to enjoy an immersive experience while playing your favourite casino games online.

Enjoy free online casino games with casino bonuses
