Blackjack

Introduction

Blackjack is popular card game, where the aim is to reach Blackjack or as close to 21 points as possible, without exceeding that number and beating the Dealer's point total.

A Blackjack is hit when your cards total 21 in the first deal. This is an Ace and a ten-value card. If you hit Blackjack the Dealer pays odds of 3 to 2. If you beat the Dealer and your total value of cards is closer to 21, you win your bet amount (if your bet was $10, you receive $20).

If your cards total more than 21 you are 'bust' and lose your bet. If the total value is the same as the Dealer's (17 and up), it's a draw and your bet is returned to you in a 'push'. Blackjack beats a score of 21.

Blackjack Rules

The objective of Blackjack is to collect cards that will total a value closer to 21 than the dealer's, without exceeding 21. Aces count as either 1 or 11 (player decides), face cards value 10 and number cards are their face value.

If your first two cards reveal an ace and any ten-value card, you have blackjack, and automatically win 1.5 times your bet (Blackjack pays odds of 3 to 2). If you beat the dealer with a total closer to 21 than the dealer, you win your bet amount. If your total is lower than the dealer's, or is over 21 (and 'bust'), you lose your bet. If you have the same total card value as the dealer (17 or more), this is known as a 'push', and you get your bet amount returned to you. Blackjack beats a score of 21.

William Hill Casino's Blackjack follows the standard 'Las Vegas Strip' rules, with the following exceptions:

  • After each round, used cards are returned to the deck and the deck is shuffled.
  • The player may not split a split hand.
  • Only one card is drawn to split aces.
  • The player may double after splitting.
  • The dealer will not check for Blackjack in any case.
  • If the player doubles and the dealer's first card is of value 11 (ACE), and the dealer gets Blackjack, the player loses both his bets. If the dealer's first card is of value 10, and the dealer gets Blackjack, the player gets the Double bet back.

Split

If you are dealt two cards of the same value on the first deal, you will be given the option to 'Split'. This means you can split the two cards into two separate hands and in doing so, place a second bet of the same amount. You will then draw additional cards to each hand. You can choose to take as many cards as you need on each split hand, except if you split two aces, where you can only take one additional card to each hand. If you have an ace and then receive a ten-value card, in split hands, it is considered 21 and not Blackjack.

Double

Once dealt your first two cards and on believing your third card will produce a hand that will beat the dealer's, you can double your bet. Click on the Double option that appears. The bet amount shows as double your original, and your account balance will show the debit. You will automatically be dealt one more card.

Insurance

You can take out insurance on the dealer having Blackjack if he shows an ace in his initial hand. Click the Insurance button and an amount equal to half your bet is debited from your balance, and placed in a separate area of the table. If the dealer does reveal Blackjack you are paid 2 to 1 on your insurance. This way you do not lose your original bet, because you get two times your original bet, plus the insurance amount back). You lose the insurance amount if the dealer does not have Blackjack (regardless of who wins the hand).

10 Card Charlie

You can automatically win the game if you draw ten cards - this is possible to do. This is with the exception of the dealer having Blackjack.

Winnings

Winning hand pays 1 to 1

Insurance pays 2 to 1

Blackjack pays 3 to 2
